Description
The Fink School of Traditional Art has taught thousands of students the skills and techniques of drawing and painting both in studio and online for over 55 years. Established in 1965 by Maryland artist Paula Fink (1927-2018), students learn age old traditions of fine art.
More Information

2nd generation Director Alan Fink has been painting professionally since 1972. Students from ages 8 and up are taught the fundamentals of lighting and shading techniques that are used to create realism in all genres of subject matter. Students begin working with vine charcoal, and progress into soft pastel as a primary development medium. Instruction is individual within the group as each student works at their own pace and comfort level.

Basic subject matter includes still life and landscape, and more advanced students will learn visual perspective, portrait and figure drawing. Once students become proficient in the pastel medium, they can progress into oil painting. The same technique learned in the pastel medium of underdrawing before color application also applies to oils. Student learn to underpaint (grisaille) before color just as the masters did centuries ago.

Time slots for homeschoolers are available on our regular schedule during each term or can be arranged on a custom basis for groups. Classes are available both in the studio and online.
